Her Majesty's Ship Racoon Oil Ship. Its not a very inventive title but I think its got a charm to it. This is the first game I was involved in that used the Unreal Engine and my first time working with code and UI. It was a crash course in Unreal and the first time I truly understood what it was like to make a game on a tight deadline. It really was, in many ways, a pre cursor to our more ambitious game Curse of Tavros. I took a lot of what I learned here into that and expanded on my knowledge and skills.

The roles I had on this project were UI designer and coder as well as coding the music. I also ended up animating the locker traps. This was my first time having to use Widgets which I actually found myself enjoying as a process. The menus here are very basic but had I more time I realised Id have been able to easily figure out how to make them change via mouse hovering or clicking. I also enjoyed figuring out and placing the UI: the process for that felt very intuitive as someone who plays games I hadn't realised how much id internalised what I liked or disliked about other games UI.

Although Curse of Tavros could be considered a somewhat spiritual successor to this game there was a lot I never got an opportunity to expand on. For example I never got my chance to fully explore widgets and make a more interesting menu. Nor did I get to expand my knowledge on UI and make something more visually appealing and technical. However I am sure that I will be able to expand in these aspects in my own personal projects or as part of a group.
